Thanks for all the kind wishes and apologies for  mass mail...but think you can understand
    we are all exhausted.

Staying at Shannon's, Jeff at the hospital  called a little after 5 AM Tues. Dec 1, 2009.
    Her heart rate was 124
They cut Shannon open early this AM . So now she has the cut from the birth
and a vertical one for them to "surf" in.

The only thing they could find was about two liters of blood and fluid in the muscle above the
    stomach
that had about 2 liters of blood and fluid that had leaked into the abdominal cavity.
I guess much of the pain was caused bit it become jello like and sort hardening that area
(computer glitch wiped out the rest of the story 3 tims...I'm heading to slee)

Shannon was stable when we left the hospital around 9PM Tues Eve.
Doctors think they stopped the internal bleeding since her vitals remain constant
and the blood pressure is dropping and the heart rate that was at 124 was peeking below 100.
The doctors "often see rates over 90 in post (partum) delivery"
not sure what that means but sounds good.

She got a little sleep.  Jeff finally got an hour and a half nap early evening when we were not
allowed in ICU.  The hospital in the peds area provided us a room with two beds to use as a
base...keep our stuff and if we had wanted to ...spend the night.  Jeff got to use the shower.
Lois and I chose to wait till we got back to Shannon's home and after walking their dog.
Neighbors have been help there too and keeping an eye on things.

Mommy should be out of ICU late Wed or Thur ...then maybe 4 days to recover and since the
kids were premature or whatever term they choose....they can stay as long as mommy is
    expected to stay.
Dec 5  Grandad at home with dogs.  Mommy and babies in same room.  All doing better.
Dad is feeding the babies and diapering along with the nurses, but once in the room
together ...Nana and Dad have it all to do.  Mommy is lucking to make it to the bathroom
and back to bed but got the tubes out and healing.  May go home Sunday.

Shannon and Babies doing better.
Lois was exhausted when i brought her home Friday.
Me too....haven't been sleeping at night and the dogs drive me nuts in day time.
Shannon reports all goes well.   Other Grandma came over to help Sunday.
Lois went up Sunday night
.
Jeff will take the brood to the doctor Monday, so Grandad doesnt have to stress about getting there in time.
He'll be the "night nanny"  Wonder why???

Their real night nanny has been there several times, so they can sleep...second night she came ...Shannon
couldn't sleep.
Cold up here.
We are planning on being up their the whole week.................ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Feeding every 3 hours....takes over an hour with bottle prep...clothes etc.  then it 's time again.
Claire has to be held for 25 minutes after being fed.
I volunteer for that.   Reminds me of when Shannon was little and used to come home from work and hold her in
a chair and fall asleep  7:30-8PM

Shannon seems to be getting better, but is so tired...we worry about her.
but i guess "that's our job."
We told them now they have 40 years or more to worry ....
he he.
They didn't find the humor.
My goodness they have so much stuff ...and 2 of everything.
I remember for Shannon we had an oval tub called a baby bath and cheap plastic tilted thing we carried her
around in.
No padding just blue plastic with a wire thing that set it up at an angle.
They even have special pads and sponge  like things to keep them on their back in a specific part of their cribs.
Braden eats up a lot and burps loudly.
Claire eats ...not enough...and sometimes spits up a little.
can 't tell if she burps or just utters a little cry sound.

Well, that's what I know at this point.

Ramblings of a night nanny Granddad  (AM 12/27/09)

I haven't written much for a while.  As a night nanny one does
not get a lot of sleep.  You don't expect to sleep during the
night, but a little in daytime would be nice.

Claire and Braden need to be fed every three hours.  It takes
about an hour to get one out, cleaned up, redressed, diapered,
fed mommies milk and then formula.  Now as a Granddad
night
nanny
the feeding of mommies milk is not part of my job unless
mommy pumps it so maybe she can get little sleep.

With two babies, if you're lucky, you get them both asleep in two
hours that leaves you an hour all to yourself, so you can wash
the bottles, wash the other containers, wash the nipples, wash
all the other paraphernalia, and then if time, boil them all for
just 2 minutes even if it takes 10 or more to get the water
boiling.  Grandad discovered the “watch pot” that never boils..

REWARD:  How could anything be more fun than spending the
first 4 1/2 hours of Christmas day holding two beautiful babies,
feeding them, rocking them wrapping them up and putting them
into the crib.  More fun than I could've ever believed.  And the
advantage of being night nanny is that you can rock them as
long as you want and nobody is awake enough to tell you
otherwise.
Hey, they're only little for a short while, so if there’s a whimper
one just had to be picked up…..you know to keep it quiet so the
adults could sleep.  Daddy, Mommy and Nana all check in at
least once each night to see if grandad was doing it right….oh
“...need any help?”    And sometimes he really needed help.

Loads of things I'd forgotten. To explain forgotten perhaps I
need to remind you that when my daughter was small her
mommy went back to work after six weeks.  Her mommy left for
work around seven and often didn't get home till five.  So that
left daddy to get the baby ready to go to the sitter.  Of course,
all the clothes were laid out and the travel bag packed.   I'd also
forgotten that once little babies have their diapers off and get
cleaned up,  they love it so much that they either wet or dirty
the new diaper and the clothes too.  So with Twins many three-
hour feedings included two or sometimes three diapers each.
mattresses is sorta scooped out, so I slid her up to the top on the left and put Braden across the bottom.
They are so a small that they both easily fit.  Braden decided he wanted to kick and do all kinds of things
to make getting dressed a challenge.  I swear that Claire lay there laughing at me. She had the biggest
smiles and every time that I struggled with Braden to dress him, she just looked like she was laughing at
me.  Now I know they're so small that the eyes don't focus yet well, but I'll never forget how she’d look at
me and laugh.

The sleep depriving part was when the other people got up and seem to expect granddad to participate in
breakfast and cleanup chores, and granddad just wanted to hit the hay.
Of course three adults and two twins are not quiet.  He he.

The first stint at being night nanny, I think, was three nights.  Granddad was so proud that the last two
nights he was able to juggle the kids in the schedule and let mommy and super Nanny Nana get some
sleep.   Well, when granddad went back Christmas week it was a different story.  At least once each night
one of babies would wake up and cry while Granddad was working with the other one.

Poor mommy had to get up and pump if she didn't feed the babies, so she really didn't get much rest.  I
think she thinks she should be super women.  Seems like everyone forgets that she had major surgery
after the surgery to get the babies born.  She seems to think that she should be able to do everything.
And.. she's doing a lot.  Daddy is in out of the picture because he had to go to work and then he had
family obligations during Christmas week.

Nana and granddad were happy when mommy and daddy decided to go to his parents celebrations and
leave the babies safely at home.  As little as they are we sure don't want them to catch the flu or some
other bug from other children.

Claire at the last official weighing was 5 lbs. 4 oz. and Braden was 5 lbs. 15 oz., but this week dad got on
the scales, weighed himself and then the Twins and found that the new unofficial weights were 6 pounds
and 8 pounds.

Claire and Braden seemed to be eating pretty well, but of course super mommy thinks she should be
giving them more milk.

They had recieved a lot of toys and clothes before they were born, but at Christmas they got a bunch
more.  Nana and granddad are taking a different approach and starting a college fund…. Or.. that’s the
plan until nana gets in the store and sees kids clothes.

Of course, granddad had to buy them the starter kit of Dr. Seuss books.  There were four.  Cat in the Hat,
Green Eggs and Ham, One Fish Two Fish and a new book the title of which I can't recall.

Dad bought them a beautiful old time looking large print, Twas the Night before Christmas.

Please excuse the lack of accurate capitalization.  I'm using Dragon NaturallySpeaking   and it capitalizes
when it wants to sometimes I catch it and sometimes not.

Well, there was much more that I was going to ramble on about,, but I think this will suffice for now.  Hope
you all had a good Christmas or  happy holidays or some good feeling “bah humbug” for some of you.

For me,  it was the second best Christmas ever.  The first of course was when Shannon was little.  Daddy's
little girl now has a little girl and the little boy of her own and that makes us all happy.

Nana comes home to take a break and will return shortly.
Month 2  blog update

Nana and Grandad have been helping out.
Doctor says they are doing well.

Clare is 8 lbs and 5 oz and Braden is 9 pounds 13 oz.
Both eating well, but sometimes depositing mommy's milk
on grandad's sweat shirt.
Doc says that's ok.

Braden has a face rash.  Mommy's Lady doctor neighbor
say it should go away between 13 and 16 weeks...doctor
monday said the same.

Grand dad has been doing Mon, Tues and part of Wed.
Nanna arrives early Wed and stays till Friday.
Have a paid Night Nanny 3 times a week who gets them to
sleep a lot longer than Grandad.  duh!

Development wise Claire seems a week or so behind
Braden, but she is just so cute.   Grandad and Nana love
holding them.    Even diapering is not too bad.  Of course,
since Grandad had a sinus problem in Dec and part of
Jan...odor was of no consequence.  he he.

Mommy gets them up an hour or so after the night nanny
leaves and takes them to the Mall and walks about 5 miles.
 They usually sleep.
When grandparents go we stop for a quick lunch and they
usually sleep.
Grandad is out of shape...shops the computer store and
other electronics stores and catches up when mommy
comes back around.  lol

Dad comes home from work and helps with the nightly
bath.  It's a family affair that we grandparents stay away
from.   The other grandparents help out from time to time.
They already have several grand children and have to
help out with them too.

Their Dad's mom is sorta like their Mom's dad---can't keep
from working part time.

More pictures will be posted as I get more organized.  I
have a system, but ....well, I'll blame it on senior moments.
Just can't find the ones I want when i want 'em.  Like right
now I'm looking for Mommy, Nana and twins at the mall that
I had on the web page until i got the annimated gif working.

Thus endth the writing for Feb 3...  Thanks for being
interested.

Nana, Mommy, Daddy, and babies snowed in under
8-10 inches of precip.
Nana reported Braden played during the day, but Claire
slept, so they are worried that Claire will be up all night
and the paid night nanny can't make it through the snow.
They have 3 bottles of water and several boxes of
formula mix.  And local Kroger within walking distance.
Daddy out running the snow blower helping the
neighbors.
Grandad - cursing the puppy and Dudley....in and out.
but doing their business
outside, so that is a treat.

Clair 13 and half  lbs              Braden over 15 lbs

Sorry I've not updated the Twins blog in quite some time (baby time).
Many events have occured including a paradigm shift in the thinking of Grand Parents.

Nana has spent 3-5 days a week in Ohio with Mommy and the babies.  Grandad spent most of 2
weeks there while Nana was in South Carolina on her annual "basket making" and out of town to a
"club" meeting and an Officers training.  Nearly caused a big problem when she phoned from the
SC beach and told Grandad to listen as the waves rolled in and out and aaaaaaaa.

The babies are just delightful.  But one week grandad penned the following on his home page
linking to the twins.

    New Pics coming soon
4 months:    Claire 12 pounds    Braden  13 lbs 12 oz
Cuter and more fun every day and louder ...reminds me of the poem
        about the little girl
"when she was good she was very very good
and when she was bad she was horrid." (brother too)

They have great smiling flashing eyes and personalities.
Sleeping at night is improving. .

Been sleeping through the night a few times a week now. And started eating some cereal. Will be 6
months in a few days.  More pics to come.  Click on the

more amazing.
